Tonight O.A.R., Tomorrow Ezra and The Femmes
Derby week rolls on here in Louisville. Tonight is the draw for post positions in the big race. The "pill pull" will be at Fourth Street Live this year, which marks the first time ever that it has occured away from Churchill Downs. ESPN will be televising if you're bored and want to watch. Slightly more interesting is the fact that O.A.R. will be giving a free concert this evening, right after the draw. Perhaps hearing "Crazy Game of Poker" performed live will inspire me to make a jaunt across the river to get a little poker on at Caesar's.
Tomorrow I'll be getting my first pony fix of the season at Churchill. The Thursday before Derby has evolved over the last few years into a really fun day at the track. The infield is open for the "Festival in the Field", and they usually have a couple of decent bands playing. The last couple of years they've had Silver Loop, Cheap Trick, The Spin Doctors and The Gin Blossoms. This year it's Better Than Ezra and The Violent Femmes. It's a perfect storm of loud music, degenerate gambling, nice weather and cold mint juleps that is sure to put a smile on the face of anyone who attends. See you there.
